Introduction to Me and My Blog

This photo was taken at our family farm in Arkansas last fall and was uploaded from my computer.

Hello my name is Kenzie Golden and welcome to my blog. I am from Cherokee, Oklahoma which is a really small town in northwest Oklahoma. I grew up on a farm and went to a really small high school with only 19 students in my graduating class. I am a junior at The University of Oklahoma. Back home along with my parents I have two younger siblings and a two year old aussiedoodle and a cat. Some of my Hobbes include sports, painting, traveling, and hanging out with friends and family. My favorite foods are Italian food and any kind of breakfast food. I am currently working at a gym and in the middle of getting my personal train certification. I chose to come to OU because being from such a small town I knew that I wanted to get out into the world and experience new things. I knew absolutely no one as an incoming freshman at the university but I joined a sorority and quickly made so many friendships. I will be getting my bachelor's degree in Health and Exercise Science then moving on to get my Master's degree in Athletic Training. My dream career is to work for a professional team and get to travel with them. I have been really involved in sports my whole life and would love to continue being active with sports.

  1. Oh my gosh, I am on a roll here, Kenzie: I just commented on Keana's introduction, who was in Myth-Folklore last semester, and she was three in a row of returning students, and now you make it four in a row. That is going to be such good energy for the projects in the class this semester, having all these experienced story-writers from Myth-Folklore now exploring India this semester and sharing what you learn! I am so glad to see people coming back for more stories. :-)
Is yoga something that has been part of your HES experience or something you've looked at in terms of personal training? That's often a topic people explore in this class, and it is so perfect because the yoga asanas (postures) are linked up with the mythological stories in the epics and about the gods and goddesses in general. If that is something you are interested in, include it in your brainstorming this week and I'll share resources. One of the heroes of the Ramayana, Hanuman, the monkey-god, has an asana for example: Hanuman asana ... the epics are one of India's gifts to the world, and so is yoga!

  2. Hi Kenzie! That's so cool that you grew up on a farm. I have only ever lived in cities, and living in a small town like that sounds very nice. Also, it's nice that you were able to find such a good community once you left home. I bet that made college life a lot easier. Also, your dream career sounds so cool, I wish you luck on the rest of your bachelor's degree and in getting your master's degree.

  3. Hi Kenzie! Although I have only grown up in cities, I feel like it’s an interesting experience to live in a small town. I definitely agree that Norman and OU would be a nice change, and I think it’s a great start for your career goals. You’ll definitely be traveling a lot as athletic teams work across the world, and your profession would allow you to see so many things!

  4. Hello Kenzie! I came from a small town too, west of Fort Worth, but wow! only having 19 people in your graduating class is actually impressive. I had 400-something. I would definitely be interested to hear more about how growing up in that environment went. I'm sure it was awesome. I am also very interested and impressed with your major as well as you going on to get your master's degree. I hope everything goes well and you exceed your goals!

  5. Hey Kenzie!

I am from Woodward, Oklahoma which is only about an hour and a half away from Cherokee. I went to school in Mooreland, and my graduating class was pretty small with about 33 graduating in my class, not nearly as small as yours. I am a Senior here at OU and have 3 siblings, one older sister (25), one younger sister (13), and a younger brother (8). We recently got a yorkie before the pandemic. We named him Milo. My favorite foods are Mexican and Italian inspired cuisine. I hope you do well in your dream to work for a professional team and travel with them.

  6. Hi Kenzie! I am in HES as well! It's so exciting to see that you want to get your masters and work for a professional team. It sounds so exciting and I know it would be a blast! I grew up in a small town too but it wasn't that small, it sounds pretty close knit to have only 19 students graduating.

  7. Hey Kenzie! Wow, it is hard to imagine a high school graduating class of only 19 people! My graduating class had over 600 people, but even that was small compared to OU. I'm glad you were able to quickly find friends even in such a starkly different environment from your high school. Best of luck finishing up your degree here and your future master's!

  8. Hello Kenzie. I think that it is cool that you grew up on a farm, because I have extended family that are farmers. It is always fun to visit them during the summers and I always enjoy my time visiting them. I also think that it is cool that you plan on getting a masters in Athletic Training and working for a professional sports team. I know that would be a lot of fun. Best of luck.

  9. Hi Kenzie, I love the layout of your blog! The color pallet and the fonts together are super cute and light. I also super love Italian food and breakfast food so you made the right choice with those! I hope you will enjoy this semester and have been so far! I see that you took myth and folklore last semester, I am currently enrolled in both classes so I am glad to know you enjoyed it enough to take another semester of the same style course!

  10. Hey Kenzie! It's always great to see people from smaller towns broadening their horizons, so to speak, even if it's staying in-state. I know it was a culture shock for me, and my hometown (Midwest City) isn't anywhere near that small - but it sounds like you're handling things really well, and that's great! I'm also a fan of the simple, but effective, layout you chose for your blog. Best of luck with the personal trainer certification and the rest of your studies towards athletic training, from what I understand it's a very rewarding career path.

  11. Hi Kenzie! That's so cool that you want to be a personal trainer! I like working out occasionally but I'm sure you're in a gym more than I am. I hope you get to travel with a team like you want. That's crazy that you had only 19 people in your graduating class, I had over 700! I think there are probably many things better about going to a smaller school, however. Good luck this semester!

  12. Hi Kenzie! I think it's so cool that you came to OU from a small town, knowing no one. I would have been so scared! I came to OU with my best friend, and was so thankful to have her as we were thrust into college life. I also love breakfast food, especially my grandma's biscuits and gravy. I would love to see a picture of your dog, I've never seen an Aussie Doodle!

  13. Hi Kenzie!
I find it so cool that you came from a small town. For most people that is really scary and they don't tend to branch out, so the fact that you did is awesome! I unlike you came from a pretty big town outside of Dallas Texas so I applaud you. I hope that you have a safe and healthy rest of your semester!

  14. Hi Kenzie! I totally understand wanting to leave your town to experience new things. I didn't come from a small town, but I get how scary it can be to leave. Although my degree is online and I didn't move to Norman for school, I still feel welcomed by the OU community. I hope it's the same for you!

  15. Hi Kenzie!
I went to a very small school until 8th grade but that is wild that you had a small class all the way through high school. I would imagine you all knew each other pretty well by the time you graduated! I would also love to see pictures of your pets! Also Italian food is amazing! I love making like a quick chicken piccata in the summer.
