Week 12 Story Lab: The Internship & The Baseball Boy

The Internship

She gets the call. She has just received the best news ever, she just the got the internship of her dreams. The girl will be moving to South Dakota for the summer to intern as an athletic trainer for a minor league baseball team.

So many emotions are going through her head right now. She is nervous, anxious, but also very excited.

She will be moving 12 hours away from all friends and family for 3 months. She also will know not a soul when she gets there. All she knows is that this is the opportunity of a life time and has been waiting for something good to happen for a really long time.

The Boy

Summer is finally here so that means she has just arrived in South Dakota. First day on the job and realizes something very strange. She is the only girl in sight except for the General Manager.

The girl will be spending 3 whole months with nothing but college aged baseball boys. All that’s going through her mind is “what could go wrong?”

Halfway through the semester she has spent lots of time with a specific baseball boy. They have both admitted to having feelings for each other and spent all of their free time together.

But what happens when summer is over?

Author's Note: This is partly based off of a personal experience of mine. I will be going to South Dakota this summer for an internship with a minor league baseball team. I don't think that any of this will actually happen but I wrote these micro fictions as if it was like a movie. In these types of movies it's always about a girl meeting a boy.

  1. Hi Kenzie! I really enjoyed reading your microfictions, and liked that it was inspired by your own life. Congrats on your internship, I know what it's like to get that call. I'm actually waiting on one myself, about a post-graduation job. Fingers crossed. As for your stories, my only suggestion is paying a little closer attention when proofreading, you put semester instead of summer in "The Boy".
